Rome, Oct. 26 (LaPresse) – “There are more than 94,000 men and women in the Army, some of them abroad and many others in barracks. Bringing them to all the cities that are still not covered by the Safe Streets operation is something I am working on.” Deputy Prime Minister Matteo Salvini said this during an interview on “Ore 11”, the programme hosted by Milo Infante on Rete4. Salvini stressed the need to expand the presence of military personnel across Italy following the arrival of 500 soldiers in Milan. “Many more are needed throughout Italy,” he added, highlighting the League’s commitment to strengthening security measures in cities. “I hope no one fans the flames. Thanks to the military personnel on the streets, Milan has had a peaceful weekend. I thank the prefects and police commissioners for the important work they have done. There are many military personnel abroad who could be deployed to patrol the streets. After months of requests from the League, there are now 500 soldiers in Milan, but many more are needed throughout Italy. People are happy about it, as you could hear in Piazza Duomo, not only in the city centre but also in the suburbs, at railway stations and in parks,” Salvini concluded.
