Rome, 26 Oct. (LaPresse) – Appeals against the recently approved electoral law will be lodged today, and at 12 noon, in the Nassirya Room of the Senate, a press conference will be held to outline the appeals. Participants will include: Pietro Adami, Maria Agostina Cabiddu, Anna Falcone, Enrico Grosso and Roberto Zaccaria. “Following the approval of Law No. 180 of 9 October 2026, the process has begun to refer the provisions of the new electoral legislation – deemed to be in conflict with constitutional principles – to the Constitutional Court for review, with the aim of securing a ruling from the Court before the next general election. The filing of these appeals forms part of a wider campaign promoted at national level by the Network for a Free and Equal Vote”, explains a statement. “Following the parliamentary battle against the reform waged by all opposition parties, the Network, on behalf of civil society, intends to continue challenging the law in the courts, through the involvement of constitutional experts, lawyers, former judges, prominent figures and associations. During the press conference, the main grounds for constitutional illegality put forward in the appeals will be outlined, with particular reference to the majority bonus, the mandatory nomination of the Prime Minister, the methods for allocating seats, the equality and freedom of the vote, as well as the guarantees of pluralism and political representation. Some of the names of the appellants will be mentioned, along with the reasons behind the initiative, the various stages and the timetable of the legal proceedings undertaken, whilst also explaining how citizens can take part in the campaign to protect the right to vote. “The initiative aims to contribute to broader participation by civil society in the defence of the constitutional principles that underpin the formation of democratic representation,” the organisers conclude.
