Rome, 27 Oct. (LaPresse) – With regard to the peace negotiations in Ukraine, “Italy has long maintained that one or more figures with a clear mandate to speak on behalf of Europe must be appointed as soon as possible, by mutual agreement, in order to best safeguard Europe’s interests and security”. This is according to sources at Palazzo Chigi following a telephone call between the President of Finland, Alexander Stubb, the Prime Minister of Norway, Jonas Gahr Store, and the Russian leader, Vladimir Putin. “Negotiations cannot wait: Europe cannot afford to lose any further ground,” it was emphasised, “it must decide who represents it and must do so swiftly; it cannot continue to act in a disorganised manner and through formats that change from week to week, lest it risk a gradual loss of influence in the negotiations.” “The Italian Government is ready to continue playing its part to ensure this decision is made without delay,” the sources concluded.
