Rome, 28 Oct. (LaPresse) – “We express our full solidarity with the investigating judge in Milan, who has been the target of a reckless attack by the Prime Minister. Judges’ decisions may be challenged on their merits and appealed within the legal process. The undermining of colleagues, even by those holding the highest institutional offices, is, however, a now-routine act of intimidation that has no place in a state governed by the rule of law. An intolerable practice.” So stated the Central Executive Committee of the National Magistrates’ Association. “The autonomy and independence of the judiciary are two cornerstones of democracy, in which magistrates cannot be the enemy to be singled out in every circumstance within public debate. This behaviour damages the credibility of the institutions,” the Association concluded.
