Rome, Nov. 7 (LaPresse) – “Cybercriminals have been publishing my personal data on the dark web for days and are seeking further information, effectively exposing me to new threats and intimidation. They are also involving my family and are willing to pay for further details about me and my loved ones. My response is very simple: I will not be intimidated in any way. I will continue working to defend my ministry and Italy, and I will further strengthen ties and cooperation with our allies so that we can protect ourselves together.” This was stated by Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani on social media. “Our position on Ukraine is the political reason why I have become a target: defending the freedom of a sovereign state and openly standing up for democracy and the independence of a nation is dangerous in the eyes of these criminal groups. They are also acting in response to the activities we have been carrying out for months to protect the Foreign Ministry’s cybersecurity. At the Foreign Ministry, we are working seriously to counter these threats: as of January 1, I established a ‘cyber directorate’ to protect us against cyber intrusions by individuals often linked in some way to state entities hostile to us. We are operational and connected with our allies. Our choice, my mission, has been made: we will continue to defend our security and protect ourselves against cybercriminals. We are convinced that this is the right way to safeguard the Italian people and our country,” he added.
