Milan, March 2 (LaPresse) – A goal in each half was enough for Torino to defeat Monza 2-0 away in the early kickoff of Serie A's 27th matchday. Goals from new signings Elmas and Casadei secured a second consecutive victory for the Granata, who now sit comfortably in mid-table with 34 points.
For Monza, however, the situation worsens: with their 11th defeat in the last 13 games, they remain bottom of the table with just 14 points, edging closer to an inevitable relegation to Serie B.
The first half at the U-Power Stadium was fairly balanced, but Torino looked more dangerous and deservedly took the lead in the 41st minute. Elmas finished off a cross from Lazaro, scoring his second goal for Torino since joining from Napoli.
Monza relied heavily on the creativity of Keita and the physical presence of Ganvoula, but it wasn’t enough to trouble Torino’s solid defense. In the second half, the visitors controlled the game and sealed the win in the 66th minute, as Casadei netted his first-ever Serie A goal. Under the watchful eye of Italy coach Luciano Spalletti, the former Chelsea midfielder clinically beat Turati after a perfectly timed run into the box.
For Monza and their dejected coach Alessandro Nesta, this was a final blow in an already desperate campaign.
