Rome, March 5 (LaPresse) – Bruno Pizzul, the legendary voice of Italian sports journalism, has passed away at the hospital in Gorizia. He would have turned 87 in a few days, as reported by the Rainews website.
Born in Udine on March 8, 1938, Pizzul joined Rai in 1969 and made his debut as a commentator the following year, covering his first match (Juventus-Bologna, a Coppa Italia playoff).
From the 1986 World Cup onwards, he became the voice of the Italian national team’s matches, serving as the main commentator for five World Cups and four European Championships before retiring in August 2002 after Italy's 0-1 loss to Slovenia.
In addition to his commentary, he also hosted Domenica Sprint and later La Domenica Sportiva, two iconic Italian sports programs.
