Football: Serie A, revised VAR signal in stadiums and referee audio in C.Italia

Milan, 24 Mar. (LaPresse) – The Serie A League has announced that ‘starting from the 30th Matchday of the Championship, it will integrate the VARDict signal (i.e. the television graphics transmitted during VAR checks) on the big screens in the stadiums, thus informing spectators of any ongoing VAR review or long-term VAR check. Furthermore, on the occasion of the Semi-finals and Final of the 2024/2025 Coppa Italia Frecciarossa, following the recent decision taken by Ifab during the 139th Annual General Meeting, and in agreement with Figc and Aia, the Lega Serie A will begin the experimental phase of broadcasting the referee's audio signal inside stadiums and on television, with the specific limitation of only explaining the decisions made by the referee after the VAR intervention for ‘On-Field-Review’ (OFR). Through the implementation of a specific technological solution, developed by our partner Hawk-Eye, which is added to the current set-up of referee communication, during the OFR, television viewers and the audience at the stadium will be able to hear the reason for the decision directly from the voice of the Referee’.
