Milan, April 8 (LaPresse) – A superb Arsenal side thrashed Real Madrid 3-0 in the first leg of the Champions League quarter-finals. After a balanced first half, the Gunners dominated the second half, with two stunning free-kick goals from Declan Rice in the 58th and 70th minutes.
Spanish midfielder Mikel Merino added the third in the 75th minute with a precise left-footed shot from the center of the box.
Real Madrid threatened only in the first half through counterattacks led by Mbappé and Vinicius. To make matters worse for the Blancos, they were reduced to ten men late in the match after Camavinga was sent off.
The return leg is scheduled for April 15 at the Bernabéu in Madrid, with Arsenal already one step away from the semi-finals.
