Football, Lazio apologizes to fans: “Our responsibility, we’ll come back stronger”

Rome, May 26 (LaPresse) – “Before we even thank you for your constant support, we feel the duty to apologize for this end to the season, which has irreparably compromised everything good we had built,” reads a statement from S.S. Lazio, following yesterday’s home defeat to Lecce that ended the team’s streak of eight consecutive qualifications for European competitions.

“In a season of two halves — the first of which was at times thrilling — the result against Lecce left us out of Europe. The responsibility is ours: the club, the coach, and the team. Everyone except you, the fans, who once again have shown extraordinary, passionate, and tireless support. We will start over with you, strengthening that unique and special bond that is the most solid foundation for our future.”

The note continues: “We still have in our minds the magnificent displays you created at key matches this year — a tangible symbol of your passion and loyalty. We will preserve the positives from this season, like the 65 points earned and the determination shown to the end, but we will carefully analyze everything that didn’t work.”

“The club is already working to plan pre-season and the new campaign, fully aware that you Biancocelesti fans deserve new and undiminished ambitions, with our sights firmly set on a bright and winning future that we all — starting with the club — want to build with total commitment,” the statement concludes.
