Turin, Sept. 18 (LaPresse) – Liverpool defeated Atlético Madrid 3–2 at home in their opening match of the Champions League league phase. The Reds got off to a flying start, scoring twice in just two minutes with Robertson in the 4th minute and Salah in the 6th. In first-half stoppage time, Llorente pulled one back for the visitors. In the second half, Llorente struck again with a volley from outside the box in the 36th minute to level the score, but in stoppage time, Van Dijk headed in from a corner to secure the three points for the English side.
It was also a home victory for Bayern Munich, who beat Chelsea 3–1. Chalobah’s own goal from an Olise cross opened the scoring in the 20th minute, and Kane doubled the lead seven minutes later from the penalty spot. The Blues responded quickly, with Palmer narrowing the gap after a one-two with Gusto in the box, but in the second half, Kane sealed the win for the German side.
