Rome, 6 October (LaPresse) – ‘I would like Udine to host the Israel-Palestine match one day. It would mean that we have created two states and we have peace.’ This is what the mayor of Udine, Alberto Felice De Toni, told LaPresse ahead of the World Cup qualifying match between Italy and Israel scheduled for 14 October in Udine. “Even playing the match behind closed doors could have been a way to avoid adding fuel to the fire. We will have 6,000 people inside the stadium and 10,000 outside. It’s a situation where people wanted to force the issue, the situation is dramatic and paradoxical, there will be more people outside than inside. I was looking for a third way, we will have to make peace sooner or later. We must support the doves on all sides. The hawks destroyed Europe in the 1940s and are now destroying the possibility of two states, Israel and Palestine,” he added.
