Milan, 9 October (LaPresse) – The Federal Court of Fidal, the Italian Athletics Federation, has disqualified and banned Giacomo Tortu for 36 months. The brother of Filippo Tortu, Olympic champion in the 4×100 in Tokyo, was accused of illegal spying on Marcell Jacobs. The federal prosecutor had even requested Giacomo Tortu’s expulsion. According to the lengthy ruling, the brother of the Italian sprinter, who is a member of FIDAL, took full responsibility for the incident as the sole defendant. The ruling states that Tortu ‘is prohibited from carrying out any activity within FIDAL during this period, starting from the date of notification of this decision’. The Raptors Milano club, for which Giacomo Tortu is registered, was acquitted. The ruling also states that “the action was taken in the alleged interest of his brother, Mr Filippo Tortu, who was not involved in the incident and who was, and is, registered with the Fiamme Gialle and not with Raptors Milano”.
