U20 World Cup: Italy out in the round of 16, USA wins 3-0

Turin, 10 October (LaPresse) – The journey of the Under-20 national team, runners-up in the World Cup, comes to an end in the round of 16, losing 3-0 to the United States at the “El Teniente” stadium in Rancagua. This is the first time in history that Italy has been eliminated at this stage of the competition, after six previous successes (1987, 2005, 2009, 2017, 2019 and 2023). The Azzurrini conceded the first goal in the 15th minute to Benjamin Cremaschi, a Parma midfielder on loan from Inter Miami. In the 79th minute, Niko Tsakiris, midfielder for San Jose Earthquakes, doubled the lead, while in the final minutes, after two calls to Football Video Support regarding penalty kicks on Corradi and then Liberali that were not deemed fouls, Cremaschi scored his second goal of the match, setting the final score at 3-0. ‘The boys put in a good performance,’ said the Azzurri coach. “The result is certainly misleading: we could have done a little more in the final third. We must congratulate these lads for what they have done in this tournament. Ours is one of the youngest teams in the tournament, which today faced one of the most experienced. The journey of many of our lads will start again from the Under-19s after this great experience at the World Cup.”
