Rome, Oct. 21 (LaPresse) – “In this case, Marinelli had read the situation on the field well, and when there is intensity like in this case, the VAR should not intervene. It was an on-field assessment by the referee. With the very high penalty threshold that Rocchi is applying this season, this is not a penalty. If the referee had considered the incident as a penalty, the VAR should have intervened to have it removed.”
Thus said former referee Andrea De Marco, head of institutional relations for Can A and B, speaking on ‘Open Var’ on Dazn about the penalty awarded to Milan during Sunday’s match against Fiorentina.
De Marco also commented on Gimenez’s fall in the box after contact with Parisi: “He exaggerated his fall a lot. This season we are seeing many players behaving in this way. Rocchi has been very clear and very strict, and the commission is studying measures for such cases. Maximum respect is needed on the field, and these things must be eliminated.”
