Florence, 22 October (LaPresse) – Renovation work on the Artemio Franchi stadium in Florence will be completed by 2029, but the new Fiesole stand will not be ready in time for Fiorentina’s centenary, scheduled for August 2026. This was confirmed by Palazzo Vecchio, explaining that technical problems had caused a delay in the initial schedule. ‘I would have liked the Fiesole stand to be ready for the centenary,’ said Mayor Sara Funaro. ‘I am the first to be disappointed. However, we will work to ensure that this anniversary remains a memorable moment for Florence and Fiorentina fans.’ Among the main causes of the delay are difficulties in sourcing steel structures for the roof, geotechnical problems related to the construction of helical piles (later replaced with bored piles), and other unforeseen critical issues at the Campo di Marte construction site. Meanwhile, work is continuing: the reinforced concrete walls of the new Fiesole curve are being built and the concrete of the Nervi frames is being restored. The restoration of the Torre di Maratona is almost complete, while demolition of the old gym has begun to make way for new underground spaces. The metal structures and steps will be installed starting in early 2026.
