Skiing, Bassino: ‘This is a new challenge for me, and I will tackle it with all my strength.’

Rome, 23 October (LaPresse) – Marta Bassino’s post-operative recovery is proceeding smoothly. She underwent surgery on the evening of Wednesday 22 October, performed by the President of the Medical Commission Andrea Panzeri in collaboration with doctors Riccardo Accetta and Gabriele Thiebat, to reduce and repair a fracture of the lateral tibial plateau of her left leg and reattach the medial collateral ligament of her knee. The champion from Borgo San Dalmazzo (Cn) will be discharged on Friday morning and will continue the rehabilitation process that has already begun. Marta herself recounts what happened to her. “I was on a flat section at the bottom of the Leo Gurschler slope and was heading towards the junction that led to the small road, where the snowmakers had smoothed the snow the day before and it was beautiful. Unfortunately, some snow had formed into lumps and when I reached a long stretch, I slipped, my left ski caught and I ended up completely stuck, my knee pivoted and I heard a crack.” The champion’s strength lies in her refusal to give in to this nasty injury. “I intend to face this new challenge with all my strength: I have been very lucky in my career and have never had any serious injuries until yesterday, so this is a new challenge. I have already started physiotherapy to keep my knee mobile enough, but I won’t be able to put any weight on my leg for a whole month. Right now, I’m just thinking about getting better. A knee will heal in the end, but unfortunately, this is a setback that can happen in an athlete’s career.”
