Skiing: World Cup, Scheib wins Giant Slalom in Sölden, Gut-Berhami third

Rome, 25 October (LaPresse) – The Rettenbach wall rewards 27-year-old Austrian Julia Scheib, who wins her first career victory in the opening giant slalom in Sölden. Scheib was 1.28 seconds ahead of American Paula Moltzan, who finished second, 58 hundredths of a second behind the home favourite. Lara Gut-Behrami came back to take third place, 1.11 seconds behind, moving up two places in the second run. Italy’s Asja Zenere finished in a respectable 17th place, moving up two places and clocking the 11th fastest time in the second run. It was a good result for the Vicenza native who lives in Barzio. ‘I have a lot of room for improvement,’ said Zenere. I’m feeling good now. My knee was hurting a bit, but I gritted my teeth and this result is good for me. Now I’ll definitely try to continue with two disciplines, giant slalom and super-G, and maybe even a bit of downhill. Now there will be a speed session in Cervinia and then we’ll see. I’ve been chasing something concrete for many years and I take this start as a good sign.”
