Cycling: Track World Championships, Viviani wins gold in elimination race in final career event

Rome, 26 October (LaPresse) – The last dance. Elia Viviani ends his long and prolific career in the best possible way, winning the gold medal in the elimination race at the Track World Championships in Santiago, Chile. The champion from Verona, three-time Olympic medallist (gold and bronze in Rio and Tokyo in the omnium and silver in Paris 2024 in the madison) and flag bearer at Tokyo 2021, climbs back onto the top step of the podium and to the top of the world with a dominant performance. Leading for long stretches, he took risks without ever overdoing it, responding to attacks from Dutchman Yoeri Havik, who finished third, and beating New Zealander Campbell Stewart, who finished second. Viviani won gold in 2021 in Roubaix and in 2022 in Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines. For the Veronese rider, this was his last race as a professional.
