Rome, 28 October (LaPresse) – Jannik Sinner has criticised Grand Slam tournaments for failing to respond to repeated requests from the world’s biggest stars to discuss prize money and social benefits for lower-ranked players. This was reported by The Guardian, which spoke to the current world number two on the matter. ‘We had good conversations with the Grand Slam tournaments at Roland Garros and Wimbledon, so we were disappointed when they said they couldn’t follow up on our proposals until other issues were resolved,’ Sinner explained. ‘The calendar and scheduling are important issues,’ he explained, ‘but nothing prevents the Slams from addressing player benefits, such as pensions and healthcare, at this time.’ The Slams, added the Italian tennis player, ‘are the most important events and generate most of the revenue in tennis, so we are asking for a fair contribution to support all players and prize money that better reflects the earnings from these tournaments. We want to work with the Slams to find solutions that are positive for everyone in tennis.’
