Milan, Nov 7 (LaPresse) – “Worried about the investigation into San Siro? No, absolutely not. I believe this is a historic moment to be celebrated. The signing of the deed marks the beginning of a virtuous path that will lead to the construction of a new stadium, which I hope can be completed within five years. This is thanks to the perseverance of both ownerships — ours, Oaktree, and Milan’s — as well as that of Mayor Sala. It will be a challenging journey, full of obstacles, but I believe that Milan, both clubs, and Italian sport as a whole need a new stadium that meets modern standards of safety and hospitality. I also hope that it can eventually be used for the 2032 European Championships, an important event for our country,” said Inter president Beppe Marotta on the sidelines of an event at the Lombardy Region headquarters.
Regarding the timing of the announcement that the prosecutor’s office is investigating for bid rigging on the same day as the signing, Marotta added: “I won’t go into the details, but I can confirm that everything was done in compliance with the law and with full transparency, so we are very calm about the ongoing investigation.”
