Rome, Dec. 3 (LaPresse) – The draw for the 2027 Rugby World Cup held in Sydney was not very favourable to the Azzurri. Italy, in the pool phase of the World Cup to be played in Australia, has been placed in Pool B with reigning champions South Africa, Georgia and Romania. The Azzurri will therefore face the Springboks again at a World Cup after 2019, when it ended 49–3 to the South Africans. Their most recent meeting, however, was in the 2025 Nations Series in Turin, which finished 32–14. Italy and Georgia have never met at a World Cup, and their last encounter dates back to 2024, when Quesada’s team won 20–17 in a test match in Genoa. There has only been one World Cup meeting between Italy and Romania, in 2015, when the Azzurri won 32–22. The other pools are as follows: Pool A – New Zealand, Australia, Chile, Hong Kong; Pool C – Argentina, Fiji, Spain, Canada; Pool D – Ireland, Scotland, Uruguay, Portugal; Pool E – France, Japan, USA, Samoa; Pool F – England, Wales, Tonga, Zimbabwe. The full match schedule will be published on 3 February 2026.
