Basketball, Mabel Bocchi has died: a legend of women’s basketball

Rome, Dec. 4 (LaPresse) – Mourning in the basketball world. Mabel Bocchi, an icon of Italian women’s basketball and considered the greatest Italian female player of all time, has passed away at the age of 72. She became European club champion with Geas of Sesto San Giovanni, helping the team win the first continental women’s title for an Italian team in any sport. With the national team, she played in three editions of the European Championship, achieving third place in the 1974 edition held in Italy, and in one World Championship, in Colombia in 1975, finishing fourth overall and as the tournament’s top scorer. “Goodbye Divine Mabel, you will always be the brightest star in the Geas universe,” read a post from her former club.
