Milan-Cortina, Malagò: “I remain calm, the economic impact of the Games exceeds 5 billion”

Milan, Dec. 9 (LaPresse) – “Today we are 56 days away. There are some people in the Milan-Cortina 2026 Foundation team who are getting restless, if not ‘under more pressure’. I wouldn’t say panicking, but it’s part of life, of the job, and of people’s personalities. I, perhaps unconsciously, remain calm. But if you ask me a question, I will tell you what I’ve told many of your colleagues: every remaining day is extremely valuable to us.” This is what the President of the Milan-Cortina Foundation, Giovanni Malagò, said during an interview with RTL 102.5 regarding the Milan-Cortina 2026 Olympics. “If I think about just today, we have a videoconference with the IOC Executive Board, which is the highest governing body of the International Olympic Committee, and the Foundation’s entire first team is involved in going through a point-by-point review,” Malagò continued. “They are, in a way, examining us, as is right, also with the participation of the Minister for Sport, so the government is involved as well. And tomorrow we have an assembly, a meeting with the members and founders—local authorities, the two cities, Milan and Cortina, the two regions, Lombardy and Veneto, and the two autonomous provinces—again with the government present. This is how things proceed, as they should.”
“Speaking of numbers, there is now a scientifically and analytically proven economic impact exceeding 5 billion euros,” Malagò stressed. “We are providing jobs, both direct and indirect, to 36,000 people, with certified direct revenues of over 600 million euros. And then there is everything that remains beneath the surface—prestige, image, inspiration for young people to practice sports, and the sense of pride.”
