Rome, 17 December (LaPresse) – Paris Saint Germain are crowned world champions after beating Flamengo 3-2 on penalties in the Intercontinental Cup final. Goalkeeper Safonov put in a superb performance in the penalty shoot-out, saving four out of five. However, it was a tough match for Luis Enrique’s men, who won their sixth trophy of the season: Kvaratskhelia gave Flamengo the lead in the 38th minute of the first half, but Jorginho equalised in the 17th minute of the second half. The score remained unchanged even in extra time. The Brazilians were the first to take the penalty spot, taking the lead with De la Cruz. Vitinha responded for the Parisians. Then Safonov came into play, managing to hypnotise all of Flamengo’s subsequent penalty takers: Saul, Pedro, Leo Pereira and Luis Araujo. Dembelé and Barcola missed for the Parisians.
