Milan, 7 January (LaPresse) – One bench for two. Manchester United plans to hold further talks with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Michael Carrick before deciding who to appoint as interim manager following Ruben Amorim’s dismissal. For the time being, the bench has been entrusted to another former Red Devil, Darren Fletcher. According to Sky Sports News, there could be a role for both in the club’s new structure. Sporting director Jason Wilcox held initial informal talks with the former players on Tuesday, both of whom are reportedly keen to return to the first team. United have other candidates to consider for the role until the end of the season, including Ruud Van Nistelrooy, who filled the void left by Erik Ten Haag in October 2024, before Amorim took over the following month. Other names in the frame for next season include Oliver Glasner, Marco Silva and Andoni Iraola, all of whom see their current contracts expire at the end of the season, while Thomas Tuchel, Julian Nagelsmann and Mauricio Pochettino could be available once their international commitments at the World Cup are over.
