Turin, 13 January (LaPresse) – 2026 gets off to a good start for Matteo Berrettini. The former world number 6, the first Italian finalist at Wimbledon, defeated Next Gen ATP Finals champion Learner Tien 6-2, 6-2 at the Kooyong Classic, the exhibition broadcast live and unencrypted on SuperTennis. Two consecutive breaks put Berrettini up 4-0 in the first set. The Italian saved a total of three break points in the last two service games and completed the 6-2 set by winning the last four points of a set that was never in doubt. In the second set, Tien held on until 1-2, then Berrettini shifted gears and took the last five games of the match, ending with an authoritative service game held to love. It was his serve that gave the Italian plenty of reasons to smile. In “Hammer” mode, Matteo finished the match with five aces and one double fault. He put 78% of his first serves in play, winning 86% of points on them, and won 58% when serving his second serve.
