Milan, Jan. 16 (LaPresse) – “There were eight of us from the team on vacation, we had a great time in Bali, then something went wrong. We made a mistake, a rash move, and we paid the consequences.” This is how Italian swimmer Benedetto Pilato, interviewed by Mario Calabresi for Chora Media’s ‘Vivavoce’ podcast, spoke for the first time about the unfortunate incident this summer, when she was stopped at a duty-free shop at Singapore airport, together with her national teammate Chiara Tarantino, for stealing cosmetics. The incident led to a 90-day suspension by the Italian Swimming Federation (FIN) in October, resulting in her missing the European Short Course Championships in December. “I apologized, and fortunately, everything was resolved very quickly, for which we are also grateful,” explained the 20-year-old champion from Taranto, who won bronze in the 50m breaststroke at the World Championships in Singapore.
