Australian Open, Osaka withdraws: ‘I have a physical problem that I need to resolve’

Turin, 24 Jan. (LaPresse/AP) – Naomi Osaka has withdrawn from the Australian Open ahead of her third-round match against Australian qualifier Maddison Inglis. The two-time Australian Open champion announced this on social media without explicitly mentioning her injury, posting on Instagram that she had to withdraw ‘to address an issue that my body needs attention for after my last match.’ ‘I was so excited to continue and this winning streak meant a lot to me, so having to stop here breaks my heart,’ Osaka wrote. ‘But I can’t risk further damage.’
