Champions League: Napoli-Chelsea 2-3, Campania side eliminated in the group stage

Turin, 28 January (LaPresse) – Napoli lost 3-2 to Chelsea at the “Maradona” stadium on the last day of the Champions League group stage and were knocked out of the competition, failing to qualify for the play-offs. Enzo Fernandez broke the deadlock with a penalty in the 19th minute for a handball by Juan Jesus, but the Campanians reacted and turned the game around with a superb goal by Vergara in the 33rd minute, who shook off an opponent in the area and scored with a diagonal shot, and with Hojlund’s strike before half-time from Olivera’s low cross from the left. In the second half, however, the English side levelled the score with a rocket from the edge of the box by Joao Pedro in the 16th minute, who repeated the feat in the final minutes on the counterattack, scoring the 3-2 that gave the Blues direct access to the round of 16. Napoli, for whom a draw was not enough to advance, bid farewell to the competition.
