Soccer: River Plate rebuilds Monumental stadium, which will have a roof and a capacity of over 100,000 seats

Milan, Jan. 28 (LaPresse/AP) – Argentine club River Plate will build a roof over its Monumental stadium and expand its capacity to over 100,000 seats in preparation for the 2030 World Cup, making it one of the largest soccer stadiums in the world. The club announced that work on the stadium will begin in April and will take approximately 36 months to complete, at an estimated cost of over $100 million. The Monumental is located in Buenos Aires and is already the largest in South America, with a capacity of 85,000 seats. The stadium will host matches for the 2030 World Cup, which for the first time in history will have six co-hosting nations from three different continents: Argentina, Paraguay, and Uruguay from the Americas, Spain and Portugal from Europe, and Morocco from Africa.
