Milan-Cortina, coach Vonn: ‘She can win a medal, she felt good in the trial’

Cortina d’Ampezzo (Belluno), 6 February (LaPresse) – “Can Vonn win a medal in the downhill? From what I saw today, I think she can do it. It will be tough, but she will give it her all on Sunday.” These are the words of Aksel Lund Svindal, Lindsey Vonn’s coach, at the end of the first timed trial of the downhill at the Milan-Cortina Games. The American skier tore her cruciate ligament a few days ago in the World Cup downhill in Crans Montana, but announced that she still wants to compete in the Olympics. ‘The trial went well, she felt good and knows she made mistakes,’ continued the Norwegian. “She was smart, she didn’t give it her all. She made a mistake at the bottom, but otherwise it looked like a good run to me. No big risks.‘ Before the trial, ’I tried to calm her down because I didn’t want her to push too hard since it was the first training session,‘ Svindal continued. ’She was very calm, maybe I was more nervous. She has worked hard since day one and is convinced that everything will work out. We are all positive, but she has been fantastic. She was the first to say, “It’s happening, we’re competing.””
