Cortina d’Ampezzo (Belluno), 8 February (LaPresse) – Sofia Goggia won the bronze medal in the women’s downhill at the Milan Cortina Games. The gold medal went to the reigning world champion, Breezy Johnson of the United States, who finished 4 hundredths of a second ahead of Germany’s Emma Aicher and 58 hundredths of a second ahead of the Italian skier. For Goggia, this is her third Olympic podium finish in downhill skiing after winning gold in PyeongChang in 2018 and silver in Beijing in 2022. As for the other Italians, Laura Pirovano finished sixth, 94 hundredths of a second behind the winner, while Federica Brignone finished tenth, 1.19 seconds behind, just ahead of Nicol Delago in eleventh place. The race was interrupted for about 20 minutes due to a shocking fall by Lindsey Vonn, one of the favourites for gold on the eve of the race. The American star slipped after about ten seconds and was taken away by helicopter. The race was then suspended again due to another bad fall by Andorran skier Cande Moreno, who was also rescued and transported by helicopter.
