Milan, 9 February (LaPresse) – “Yesterday was an incredible day: six medals in 24 hours at the Winter Olympics will go down in history. The multidisciplinary nature of the medals is incredible. We have become a country capable of competing in sports where we never have before. This is fundamental in the Olympic programme and in the final medal count. We are third now, even though there is still a long way to go. In terms of the number of medals, we would be way ahead. I have always believed that the strength of a country can be seen in how many medals it wins in different sports, not necessarily gold medals.” These were the words of Giovanni Malagò, president of the Milano-Cortina 2026 Foundation, guest on Radio Anch’io Sport on Rai Radio 1, on yesterday’s historic day for Italian sport, with six medals won (1 silver and 5 bronze). Why are we so capable and so good? “A question that many colleagues around the world have been asking me for a long time. I have three answers: we know how to work particularly well with the human material we have. The professionalism of CONI (Italian National Olympic Committee) is of the highest level. And then we have very well-trained coaches, with courses and basic structures for competitive growth that make the difference.”
