Milan-Cortina: Brignone leads first giant slalom run after the first 40, Goggia third

Cortina d’Ampezzo (Belluno), 15 February (LaPresse) – Federica Brignone leads the women’s giant slalom at the Milan-Cortina Games after the first run, with 40 of the 76 registered athletes having completed their runs. The Italian completed her run in 1’03″23. Behind her is Germany’s Lena Duerr, 34 hundredths of a second behind, with an excellent Sofia Goggia in third place, 46 hundredths of a second behind the Italian. The battle for the medals is wide open, with Lara Colturi – competing for Albania – fourth, 74 hundredths behind, tied with Sara Hector and Thea Louise Stjernesund. The other favourites are a little further back: Mikaela Shiffrin is seventh, 1.02 behind, Alice Robinson tenth, 1.09 behind, and Julia Scheib eleventh, 1.13 behind. The other two Italian competitors, Lara Della Mea and Asja Zener, are in 15th and 21st place respectively. The second run, which will decide the medals, is scheduled for 1.30 p.m.
