Milan, 15 February (LaPresse) – Lisa Vittozzi achieved a memorable feat in the women’s biathlon pursuit at the Milan Cortina Winter Olympics. The Italian, who started in fifth place in the sprint, won a historic first gold medal in the history of Italian sport. With a masterful performance, Vittozzi, with zero shooting errors, gradually overtook all her opponents ahead of her and crossed the finish line alone with her arms raised in the Anterselva basin with a time of 30’11″8. The silver medal went to Norway’s Maren Kirkeeide, 28.8 seconds behind, and the bronze to Finland’s Suvi Minkkinen, 34.3 seconds behind. Also noteworthy was the impressive comeback by Dorothea Wierer, who finished ninth, 1 minute 30.3 seconds behind, with one shooting error.
