Milan, 21 February (LaPresse) – ‘On behalf of myself and the management of RaiSport, I would like to offer our sincerest apologies to viewers, and in particular to the athletes and the Israeli delegation, for what was broadcast a short while ago.’ With these words, before the commentary on the four-man bobsleigh race, Rai commentator Dario Di Gennaro apologised to the Israeli delegation and athletes for the off-air comment made during the previous broadcast. ‘The off-air comment before the four-man bobsleigh race was completely inappropriate and in no way reflects the values of sport and respect that must guide public service broadcasting and, in particular, our work,’ he added. ‘We renew our apologies to the Israeli delegation and to all those who felt offended. Sport is about encounter, respect and sharing, and it is in this spirit that we continue our coverage of the four-man bobsleigh race,’ concluded the Rai commentator before beginning his commentary on the Israeli team’s descent down the new Eugenio Monti track.
