Tennis: ATP Rio de Janeiro, Berrettini eliminated in the quarter-finals

Milan, 21 February (LaPresse) – Matteo Berrettini’s run at the Rio Open, the ATP 500 clay court tournament at the Jockey Club Brasileiro and the most prestigious tournament in Latin America (prize money $2,469,450), came to an end in the quarter-finals. Reaching the top eight in the major clay-court circuit for the 14th time, the first since the 250 in Kitzbuhel in 2024 where he won his last title, the Italian (57 ATP) was defeated 6-3, 2-6, 6-3 by Peru’s Ignacio Buse (91), who had eliminated Joao Fonseca, after two hours and 19 minutes, excluding rain delays. Buse, the first Peruvian to reach the quarter-finals of an ATP 500 tournament, saved four out of six break points and missed the first two match points before celebrating the most important semi-final of his career.
