Cortina d’Ampezzo (Belluno), Feb. 22 (LaPresse) – The IOC has awarded the Olympic Order in Gold, the highest honor of the International Olympic Committee, to the President of the Republic Sergio Mattarella and the Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni. In a letter addressed to the Head of State, IOC President Kirsty Coventry explained that through this honor the IOC wishes to express “gratitude” and “thanks” for making the Milan-Cortina Winter Olympic Games “unforgettable.” In the letter to the Prime Minister, the International Olympic Committee also highlighted that the success of this edition of the Games was made possible thanks to “the crucial role played by the Italian Government under your leadership.” The IOC also awarded the Olympic Order in Silver to ministers Andrea Abodi, Matteo Salvini, and Giancarlo Giorgetti, as well as to representatives of the Milano Cortina Foundation, Simico, and local authorities.
