Rome, 8 March (LaPresse) – The magic moment continues for the Italian speed skiers in the Alpine Ski World Cup. After Laura Pirovano’s two victories in the downhill, there was a double Italian podium with Elena Curtoni winning the Super-G in Val di Fassa, returning to the top step of the podium after more than three years. The Italian’s last victory was in the downhill in Saint Moritz in December 2022. Curtoni, with her fourth career victory (her second in Super-G), finished 26 hundredths ahead of Norway’s Kajsa Vickhoff Lie, with another Italian, Asja Zenere, finishing third, 27 hundredths behind, on her first career podium. Zenere’s best career result was ninth place in the giant slalom at Copper Mountain last November. In Super-G, her best result was 20th place at Kvitfjell in 2025. Pirovano finished eighth ahead of Sofia Goggia, who was unable to push hard on her skis, struggling in the central turns and hanging on too much to the edges. The Bergamo native lost points in the discipline standings to New Zealand’s Alice Robinson, who finished fourth alongside France’s Romane Miradoli, but Zenere’s exploit, skiing with bib number 33, puts Goggia in a position to have a 56-point lead over Robinson. This means that a sixth place finish in the final race will be enough for her to win the Super-G World Cup.
