2026 World Cup. Mexican President: ‘Ready to host Iran’s matches’

Turin, 17 March (LaPresse) – “Are the conditions in place for Mexico to host Iran’s matches at the World Cup? They are in discussions with FIFA to assess the feasibility; the matter is currently under review. Mexico maintains relations with all countries around the world; we will see what FIFA decides.” Speaking at a press conference, Mexico’s President Claudia Sheinbaum raised the possibility that her country – which will co-host the 2026 World Cup alongside Canada and the US – could host the Iranian national team’s matches. ‘There are no problems for Mexico; is it just a logistical issue for FIFA? Yes,’ she added. Iran’s participation – having already qualified for this summer’s World Cup – is in doubt due to the outbreak of conflict in the Middle East against the US and Israel.
