Turin, 18 March (LaPresse) – Mattia Bellucci has come through the qualifiers and secured a place in the main draw of the ‘Miami Open presented by Itau’, the second Masters 1000 event of the season, taking place on the hard courts at Hard Rock Stadium from 18 to 29 March (prize money: $9,415,725). He is the seventh Italian in the tournament’s main draw. The 24-year-old from Busto Arsizio (ATP No. 77) defeated American Murphy Cassone (ATP No. 256), who was in the draw as an ‘alternate’, 3-6, 7-6(5), 6-3 in the decisive round; Bellucci had previously beaten Cassone in the first round of qualifying at the Phoenix Challenger in 2023. In the main draw, he has been drawn against another American, Alex Michelsen, a 21-year-old ranked 40th in the world, who beat him in their only previous head-to-head encounter, in Washington in 2024.
