Rome, 23 March (LaPresse) – Matteo Berrettini’s run at the Miami Open, the second Masters 1000 tournament of the season, has come to an end in the third round. Following victories over France’s Muller and Kazakhstan’s Alexander Bublik, Berrettini was defeated 7-6 (5) 6-4 by Monegasque player Valentin Vacherot, who secured his tenth victory on the ATP Tour in 2025 and reached the last 16 for the third time in a Masters 1000 tournament since his surprise triumph in Shanghai last year as the world number 204, becoming the lowest-ranked champion in a tournament of this category. Back then, he beat Novak Djokovic in the semi-finals and his French cousin Arthur Rinderknech in the final. The highest-ranked Monegasque in the ATP rankings and the first to win an ATP title, Vacherot could feature as a seed at his home Masters 1000, where Berrettini, who has received a wild card, will also be competing.
