Tennis, ATP Monte Carlo: Berrettini and Vavassori advance in doubles

Monte Carlo, April 6 (LaPresse) – Matteo Berrettini and Andrea Vavassori advance to the second round of the Rolex Monte-Carlo Masters, the first clay-court Masters 1000 of the season, held until April 12 at the Country Club in the Principality of Monaco (prize money €6,309,095). The Torinese, coming off his first career Masters 1000 title won in doubles with Simone Bolelli—who was absent due to mourning the passing of his father Daniele—returned after four years to partner with Berrettini in doubles. The two Italians began their campaign by defeating Australian Alex De Minaur and Briton Cameron Norrie 6-4, 4-6, 10-4. As noted by Samuele Diodato presenting the match, this was not their first head-to-head encounter: the Italians were beaten in doubles at the Queen’s Club in 2021. In the same year, they also played the ATP 250 in Belgrade, losing in the semifinals. In the next round, Berrettini and Vavassori will face the No. 3 seeds, Finnish Harri Heliovaara and Briton Henry Patten, aiming to reach the doubles quarterfinals in Monaco. It would be the first for the Roman, and the second for the Torinese, who reached it two years ago with Bolelli.
