Rome, 17 Apr. (LaPresse) – ‘We’re having a good season; honestly, we didn’t expect it to be this good, but the incredible work we’ve put in is paying off and I think we deserve it.’ So said Como’s Argentine striker, Nico Paz, in an interview with Sport Mediaset. “Fabregas has been the most important factor. He has so much faith in us; he’s a young manager, someone who lives and breathes football, works hard, studies hard and lets me play the way I want to play – that’s crucial,” he added. “I think I’ve matured in every respect. I arrived here from Real Madrid Castilla without ever having played for a first-team side. Last season was my first in Serie A and now I feel much more mature, better prepared to play at this level. It’s a good league; I’m focused on improving every day to keep growing,” emphasised the Argentine ahead of the upcoming clash against Inter, this time at San Siro, in a match that could decide the Coppa Italia final: “It would be wonderful. We have to do everything we can; we’ll go and give it our all. We’re ready and we want to play as well as we possibly can.” Any concrete contact with Inter? “No, there’s been nothing.” As for the idea that Real might bring him back to Spain in the summer, taking advantage of a favourable clause in his contract, “I don’t want to think about those things. I’m 100% focused here at Como. I want to give my all on the pitch here. Then, if there’s a chance in the future, we’ll see.” His debut for Argentina in October 2024 against Bolivia was a huge thrill, complete with an assist for Messi: “A dream – I didn’t realise it at the time and only realised it after the match. I was able to provide an assist for Messi and it’s very special for me because my dad was also at the stadium watching the match. Leo told me to work hard and to stay humble. I’d steal his left leg if I could…‘. The World Cup is approaching and ’I’ve been dreaming of it since I was a child, since I used to watch the matches on TV. It would be incredible for me; I work every day to get there”.
