Athletics: Mei on the bugging scandal at Fidal: ‘I don’t believe the theory of an inside job; we’ll consult our lawyers’

Rome, 19 April (LaPresse) – “I’m completely at ease, because there’s no way this could be an internal matter, and I’m not worried, even though it seems strange to me that such things could happen in a situation like this – there’s simply no reason for it.” This is what Fidal president Stefano Mei told LaPresse following the ‘incident’ involving the bug found in the office of the federal secretary-general, Alessandro Londi, as reported by La Repubblica. Mei confirmed that Fidal had received no “complaints or reports”, adding that “our lawyers” would be contacted on the matter in the coming days. “Have I formed an opinion on the matter? No. Besides, I only found out about it later, as the police had been called first. And it is curious that, despite my being Fidal’s legal representative, someone called 113 before informing me. Decontamination? It hasn’t been carried out yet, as this is a recent incident.”
