WTA Madrid : Errani/Paolini éliminées en huitièmes de finale en double

Turin, 26 April (LaPresse) – Sara Errani and Jasmine Paolini, the top seeds in the doubles draw, were knocked out in the second round of the ‘Mutua Madrid Open’, a WTA 1000 tournament with a prize fund of €8,235,540. Despite leading 6-4, 4-1 at the Caja Mágica, they lost 4-6, 6-4, 10-6 to Germany’s Laura Siegemund (world No. 21 in doubles), whom Paolini had previously beaten in the singles, and Russia’s Vera Zvonareva (world No. 43), competing as a neutral player. The two pairs had already met in Dubai: the Italians had lost in two sets. In the quarter-finals, they will face either the Indonesian pair Aldila Sutjadi/Janice Tien or the sixth-seeded pair, the Spanish-American duo Cristina Bucsa/Nicole Melichar Martinez.
