Milan, 15 May (LaPresse) – Alex Marquez set the fastest time in the first free practice session at the Catalan Grand Prix, part of the MotoGP World Championship. The Spaniard from the Gresini team (Ducati) clocked a time of 1’39″950, finishing 0.349 seconds ahead of his compatriot Jorge Martin on an Aprilia. The former world champion also suffered a crash around 18 minutes before the end of FP1, though it appears to have been without serious consequences. Third place went to Italy’s Fabio Di Giannantonio, on a VR46 Ducati, 0.393 seconds behind, ahead of Spain’s Pedro Acosta on a KTM, 0.438 seconds behind. Fifth place went to the Aprilia of the riders’ championship leader, Marco Bezzecchi, at +0.472 seconds. Pecco Bagnaia was only 17th on his Ducati, 0.940 seconds behind Marquez. MotoGP returns to the track at 3pm.
