Rome, 21 May (LaPresse) – The draw for the men’s draw at the 2026 French Open took place in Paris, with seven Italian players featuring. Jannik Sinner, who tops the seedings (with Cobolli and Darderi also among the seeded players), has been placed in the top half of the draw and will make his opening-round appearance against France’s Clément Tabur, ranked 165th. Sinner is in the same quarter as the American Ben Shelton, with a potential semi-final against the Frenchman Félix Auger-Aliassime or the Russian Daniil Medvedev. Pending the conclusion of the qualifiers, here are the opening matches for the other Italians in the main draw: (first quarter) Berrettini v Fucsovics (Hungary); Arnaldi v Griekspoor (Netherlands); Darderi v Ofner (Austria); (second quarter) Cobolli v qualifier/lucky loser; (third quarter) Sonego v qualifier/lucky loser; (fourth quarter) Bellucci v Halys (France). Sinner, the world No. 1, will be competing at Roland Garros for the seventh time in his career (with a record of 22-6). In 2025, he played his first final in the tournament, the longest ever in men’s singles, losing to Alcaraz after squandering three match points. In 2024, he was knocked out in the semi-finals, again by Alcaraz, but thanks to that result, he became the first Italian world No. 1 since the computerised rankings began. Previously, he reached the quarter-finals on his debut in 2020 – the eleventh time an Italian had done so in a Grand Slam in the Open era – losing to Rafa Nadal, and reached the last 16 in 2021 and 2022.
