Milan, 26 May (LaPresse) – “Everything’s fine with Napoli. People understand why I acted that way; my love for the club remains unchanged. I have a year left on my contract; I’m a Napoli player. I’m not the sort of person who asks to leave.” This was stated by Belgian striker Romelu Lukaku during an interview with his country’s broadcaster RTBF, regarding his future with the Azzurri. Lukaku has been training in Belgium for several weeks. In addition to specific individual work, he has been training with Anderlecht’s Futures team. “I’m feeling fitter and fitter. I’m in better shape than I was before the 2022 World Cup; I shouldn’t have gone to Qatar back then,” he said. In particular, he reached a speed of 35.5 km/h during a sprint session. “I haven’t been this fast for several years,” he admitted. Physically, everything seems to be in order. But Lukaku still needs to regain his match fitness, which is understandable. He hasn’t played since 6 March and has clocked up just 64 minutes this season. “With the national team, we’re doing everything we can to get me back to full fitness. Matches will be arranged specifically for me,” explains Big Rom. The Red Devils’ top scorer remains cautious and is keeping expectations in check ahead of the World Cup. “I’m not approaching this situation thinking I’m already a starter. I’ll do everything I can to be ready, so that I can make my contribution to the team later on,” he concluded.
